How to Write an Introduction to a Textbook
An introduction generally does three things. The first part is usually a general commentary that shows the reader why the topic is important, piques their interest, and leads them to the topic. That's not the case, I'm writing the manual. Once the purpose of the manual has been established and attention has been paid to the preliminary design, the main task of writing is the next step. First, organize the content into a logical sequence of topics. Break topics down into smaller segments that describe a task, procedure, or concept. Create a table with two columns. Next, place the headings and subheadings in the first column in order. Put applicable page numbers in the second column. Verify that the subtitles are located under the correct titles, indented to the right. Also make sure there are page numbers for the subtitles listed.
