Helidonis et al. 21 first reported laser-assisted cartilage remodeling of rabbit ear cartilage grafts using a carbon dioxide laser, and this technique was subsequently demonstrated using others. In an experiment on ten rabbits, carbon dioxide CO2 laser evaporation of the perichondrium as well as one-third to one-half the thickness of the auricle cartilage was performed, revealing that the partially laser-ablated cartilage had grown together in the form of a solid cartilaginous column.
