The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican-American War, was signed in February. The treaty confirmed U.S. title to Texas and ceded the territories of Alta California and New Mexico to the United States. Mexico was allowed to keep everything south of the Rio Grande.
