Abstract. The existing literature on employee selection contains an abundance of knowledge about how selection should take place, but almost nothing about how it takes place in practice. This article presents a real-time ethnomethodological and analytical study of how selection decisions are made in situ. The main findings suggest this selection. In this review, we explore these distinctions in more precise terms, describe the game design and development processes needed to create a game-based functional assessment, describe theoretical and practical concerns related to using or adding of game mechanics in traditional assessment methods, and present assessment guidelines.
