Virtually every race in America can trace its roots to different parts of the country. From African-Americans to Korean-Americans, Hippies and Irish, all represent the different faces of the people. Racism is also closely linked to power structures. Teachers, for example, often hold more power – either directly enshrined in policies or codes, or indirectly exercised through education. Racial segregation leads to widening achievement gaps — but it does so entirely because of differences in educational poverty, according to a new study by education professor Sean Reardon, who is an education expert.
