Dissertation on gasoline mixture modeling
This chapter presents an application of optimization models and solution techniques in gasoline blending in a medium-sized crude oil refinery. Gasoline is the most important product in crude oil refineries as it can generate up to -70% of the total refinery turnover Hussain et al. 2018. Different grades of gasoline are made by blending, Jia and Ierapetritou 2004 addressed the short-term planning of an entire refining process, divided into three problems: crude oil operations, planning of refining units production, as well as the blending and distribution of gasoline. They formulated each of the three problems as mixed-integer linear programming MILP models and solved them. The problem involves the optimal operation of the gasoline mixture, transfer to product tanks and delivery schedule to satisfy all orders. An efficient mixed-integer linear programming formulation is developed based on a continuous time domain representation. The constant revenue assumption is used for the calculation. Simulation of gasoline combustion using chemical kinetic models of surrogate fuels is necessary to perform computer-aided engineering and design. Therefore, this article focuses on chemical kinetic models for gasoline substitutes and validation of the models against fundamental combustion experiments. Such models are essential for,
