Reflective Journal
One way to engage in critical self-assessment is to use a reflective journal. Reflective journals allow individuals to document their experiences, thoughts, and feelings. This documentation provides a basis for analysis and critical self-evaluation. Thought journals can be used to identify patterns of behavior, thoughts, and feelings. Reflective journals are used in the literature to promote student learning, develop student writing skills, assess student thinking, promote teacher professional development, and collect research data. However, the current research fills the gap in the literature by exploring the impact of student reflective journals. Reflective journals allow students to practice their writing skills in an open-ended format that encourages the same thinking process used in analytical writing.
